Swaziland DXpedition November 2010
“Gerard (Gert) ZS6AYU re-visit Hawane Resort and was active
utilizing the antennas of Daniel ZS6JR on 12, 15, 17, 20
and 10m bands info on QRZ.com”
Combined stats:-
Hannes 3DA0HC
Gerard 3DA0GF
In a combined effort we managed to work just over 3000
stations in 99 different entities, just missing out on the
magic 100.
Mozambique - South East Africa - October 2010
53rd Jamboree on the Air - C91MS Mozambique Scouts
In October 2010 Tony G4LDL and David GI4FUM visited Bilene
in Mozambique to run a JOTA station for Mozambique Scouts.
They were joined by 6 scouts who travelled up from Maputu
to participate in the amateur radio activity. They told
us that a JOTA station was run for Mozambique Scouts on
one previous occasion ten years ago. Unfortunately neither
Tony or David speak Portuguese but one scout was bilingual
and was able to translate to Portuguese for us. We made
1430 contacts in 93 countries in 48 hours. Radio conditions
were exceptional and we worked pileups on 10m, 12m and 15m.
Many stations were eager to work us for a new country as
activity from Mozambique is rather rare. All requests for
QSLs should go to David GI4FUM who is QTHR - enclose a self
addressed envelope and $2. QSLs will be available from late
November 2010.
Botswana 23 to 30 November 2009
Mike, K9NW returns to Southern Africa, this time operating
under the call A25NW from Botswana. Mike was active from
23 November to the 30th November 2009, on all bands, 160m
to 10m, and operating various modes, culminating in participation
in the CW leg of CQWW on the weekend of 28/29th Nov.
Mike’s previous visit was to Swaziland in November
2006 with the call 3DA0NW where he made a total of 10 352
qso’s. In CQWW he was placed 12th overall, wining
the dxpedition plaque with a total of 6.8 million points
and 4451 qso’s.
A25NW Nov 2009
Mike K9NW operating as A25NW exceeded his totals from his
previous visit as 3DA0NW, making a grand total of over 11k
qso's. Just under 5000 qso's were made in the contest CQWW
alone. Favoured by good conditions, flux averaging around
76 for the duration of the stay, resulted in many good totals
on the higher bands working well into the night. WARC bands
proved popular and resulted in Mike spending an evening
on SSB on 17m. Mike achieved just under 5k qso's resulting
in a points total of around 7.5 million in the contest.
Tropical thunderstorms and the problem of rain static interrupted
Mike's progress on Sunday afternoon which certainly prevented
his total exceeding 5k. The hosts at Stevensford, Sandra
and Ryan, excelled themselves in catering providing varied
starters, main courses and desserts as well as quality fruit
for breakfast. By all accounts, another successful dxpedition
by CQ DX African Safaris. We look forward to your next visit
again soon Mike.
